They don’t like federal “relief” being used to help promote law enforcement.

According to the Arkansas Advocate, activist protestors describing themselves as “criminal justice” advocates are suing an Arkansas county for using federal money to build jails. The activists say it’s an improper use of federal funds to expand jails that are currently too full with criminals who break the law.

Activists Try To Stop Prison Funding

An activist group called “Arkansas Justice Reform Coalition” has filed a federal lawsuit to block Washington County from using pandemic relief money to expand its jail facilities. Despite calling themselves a “justice reform” group they apparently don’t like expanding prisons for people who break the law.

The group is trying to stop the jail expansion program using a technicality. They claim that pandemic relief money can’t be used to expand jail facilities.

The lawsuit comes after the Washington County Quorum Court in December 2022 approved the $18.8 million of American Rescue Plan Act to be used to expand jail sizes.

Officials say the expansion is badly needed to help keep crime low. The activists won’t have it.
