Arkansas Politician Passes Away
David Pryor was born in 1934 in Camden, Arkansas. He came from a long line of local leaders of law enforcement. Being a county sheriff was a tradition carried on by his father and grandfather.
David Pryor’s mother made history by being the first woman to run for office as a county clerk.
Pryor became Arkansas’ 39th governor in 1975. Three years later he successfully won his bid as U.S. Senator and stayed there until he retired in 1994.
