A young man was arrested near Batesville, Arkansas.
The young man had previously been put under a car search “waiver” by a court, preventing him from denying car searches.
Taylor Wayne Ellis, a 28-year-old resident, was arrested on December 29, 2024, near Batesville after a routine traffic stop escalated into a felony charge. Deputy Trevor Clark of the Independence County Sheriff’s Department initially pulled over Ellis for speeding on Batesville Blvd. That’s when he allegedly found a gun in violation of the law. “Waiver” Was Ordered Before Traffic Stop Led To Gun Discovery
The following details were revealed in case documents.
Upon stopping the white Ford Escape, Deputy Clark confirmed that Ellis was driving with a suspended license and without insurance, leading to further checks. A search of the vehicle was conducted due to an existing search “waiver” from a prior legal matter, which allowed law enforcement to inspect the car.
During the search, Clark discovered a rifle hidden under fabric sheets in the back seat of the vehicle. This led to an additional charge against Ellis for possession of a firearm by certain persons, a Class “D” felony, given his prior felony convictions.
Ellis faces multiple charges including speeding, driving while license suspended, no liability insurance, and the firearm possession charge. He is being treated as a habitual offender due to his criminal history, which includes more than one felony conviction.
The case has been handed over to Detective Bobby Tate, who requested the arrest warrant. Ellis is now set to face trial for these charges in Independence County.
Please note: All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
