It’s part of a project to help prevent crime.

With the holiday season wrapping up, the Springdale Police Department has publicly unveiled the “Burglar Box.” This initiative helps dispose of large gift boxes to prevent advertising what’s inside your home to potential thieves. You can watch video footage of the burglar box below.

The department has once again partnered with Boston Mountain Solid Waste to facilitate this recycling effort. The Burglar Box is conveniently located across from the Police Department on Mill Street off Huntsville Avenue.

Residents are encouraged to use this service to avoid signaling to burglars what new items they might have received. The box will remain available until January 12th, ensuring a safe post-holiday period.

Sgt. Matt Ray, who initiated the program, emphasizes the importance of community safety during this time when burglary rates can spike. “It’s about protecting our community,” Ray stated.

The Springdale Police Department wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday, reminding residents to keep their homes secure by using the Burglar Box. Remember, safety is a shared responsibility.
