He’s set to become a circuit judge in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Doug Brimhall, set to become a circuit judge, reached a plea deal in a private domestic case that caused him to resign from his position earlier in the year. Brimhall, soon to be a circuit judge, pled guilty to a lesser charge to avoid a felony charge. He will even be forced to write an apology letter to the person involved in the dispute.
Arkansas Judge-Elect Reaches Plea Deal After Family Assault Charges
Brimhall was charged with aggravated assault and misdemeanor battery on a family or household member. He resigned from his position before the charges were filed, however.
Sources told a local news outlet that he resigned from his position due to an altercation that happened the weekend before. Charges show that it involved a family member.
Jonesboro police were summoned to Sage Meadows subdivision that weekend where Doug Brimhall was located.
Police reports were released online. However, the police report details were “masked” and redacted from public view:
Charges included felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor battery.
However, a plea agreement has just been struck that now settles the case before his January office start. Instead of being charged with a felony, he will only be slapped with a misdemeanor
According to Attorney Bill Stanley, who represents Brimhall:
“[Brimhall] chose to resolve this matter by pleading to a misdemeanor charge of harassment.”
Sources also report that Brimhall will be forced to write an apology letter to the person involved in the conflict.
