Arkansas Firefighters Respond To “Underground” Fire

A disturbing incident was announced on social media in Arkansas.

On August 31, 2025, firefighters from the Conway County Fire Department’s Sardis station responded to a blaze at the Morrilton Landfill. The fire was reported Sunday morning on the property’s north side.

The fire was primarily burning underground, posing a unique challenge for crews. Firefighters quickly mobilized to address the situation. A water shuttle system was established to douse the flames effectively.

Landfill personnel assisted by using a bulldozer to cover hot spots. The coordinated efforts of the fire department and landfill staff brought the fire under control.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

The blaze was fully extinguished, preventing further spread. Authorities have not yet released the cause of the fire.

The Conway County Fire Department praised the teamwork that ensured a swift resolution. The Morrilton Landfill resumed normal operations shortly after.
