On June 16, 2025, at 2:09 a.m., a deadly collision occurred on Interstate 40 eastbound near the 9-mile marker in Van Buren, Crawford County. Mark Holmes, 64, of Mandeville, Louisiana, lost his life in the crash. The following information was released by Arkansas State Police.

Holmes, driving a 2007 RAM, collided with the rear of a 2022 Volvo, both traveling eastbound. His vehicle then rotated in the roadway and was struck by a 2023 Peterbilt.
A minor from Sylmar, California, was injured in the incident. Details about the minor’s condition remain undisclosed.
The crash involved three vehicles, all moving east on I-40. Authorities are investigating the cause of the initial collision.
Holmes was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident has raised concerns about nighttime driving safety on the interstate.
