He’s been arrested after allegedly changing VIN numbers and serial numbers on a vehicle.
Lawton Heath Taylor, a resident of Romance Road, AR, has been charged with five felony counts in White County. He was re-arrested on January 28th at around 2:00pm after reportedly not appearing for a scheduled hearing, according to White County Sheriff’s Office. You can view a photograph of the suspect below.
Man Arrested After Allegedly Changing Serial Numbers On Vehicle
According to documents, the defendant who failed to appear in court previously. The defendant, released on a $5,000 bail bond, did not provide any reasonable excuse for their absence.
Although he was arrested on January 28th, 2025 the warrant that led to Taylor’s charges occurred on April 8, 2023.
According to case documents, Taylor is accused of receiving stolen property valued between $5,000 and $25,000 (the U-Haul, which was reportedly stolen in Little Rock). He is also charged with causing damage to U-Haul property within the same value range.
Prosecutors allege that Taylor deliberately cut off or altered the serial and VIN numbers on the U-Haul truck, which are essential for identifying the vehicle’s origin and ownership. This act of defacing or destroying these numbers is considered fraudulent and aimed at obscuring the truck’s identity.
According to the officer on the case:
“The truck had been mostly dismantled and parts cut into pieces to be sold as scrap. The V.I.N. was removed from the vehicle after the windshield was broken to gain access to it.”
Taylor’s status as a habitual offender stems from having at least four prior felony convictions.
He’s being held on a $25,000 bond.
