Deputy Sheriff Justin Smith was fatally shot while serving a warrant in Mountain View, Arkansas. The incident occurred at 4:30 p.m. on Sawmill Road during an attempted arrest for terroristic threats.
The suspect who killed Smith was captured following a standoff and charged with capital murder.
Smith had a 14-year tenure with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, having also served in Jackson and Independence Counties. He leaves behind a large family including his wife, three sons, three stepchildren, two brothers, two sisters, and 14 grandchildren.
