They’re honoring a fallen hero in Mountain View, Arkansas.

A memorial for Stone County Deputy Justin Smith is set for January 2nd in Mountain View, Arkansas. The ceremony marks one year since Officer Smith was killed while serving a warrant.

Who Was Officer Justin Smith?

Deputy Sheriff Justin Smith was fatally shot while serving a warrant in Mountain View, Arkansas. The incident occurred at 4:30 p.m. on Sawmill Road during an attempted arrest for terroristic threats.

The suspect who killed Smith was captured following a standoff and charged with capital murder.

Smith had a 14-year tenure with the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, having also served in Jackson and Independence Counties. He leaves behind a large family including his wife, three sons, three stepchildren, two brothers, two sisters, and 14 grandchildren.

An Event Honoring Smith

The event will take place at noon at the old courthouse on Main Street. In case of inclement weather, the service will move upstairs in the courthouse.
