It was a heartbreaking needless act of animal abuse and child abuse.
A couple in Jacksonville Arkansas have been hit with Capital Murder charges after the death of 2 of their children. The heartbreaking saga reveals a sick act of abandonment of children and cruelty the likes of which have never been seen. Even their dog was seized after it was found to be malnourished.
Abuse and Murder Charges
According to a press release by Jacksonville Police Department:
“At 12:42 p.m., on Sunday July 7. 2024. patrol officers with the 12th Street Division were dispatched to Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) and made aware of a child abuse report from the Jacksonville Police Department involving Justin and Deja Rollins.”
The Jacksonville Police Department had reported that a couple, Justin and Deja Rollins, were connected to an incident where four children were found suffering from heat exhaustion in a vehicle parked at the hospital.
Upon arrival, officers found the children being treated for their condition. Tragically, on the following day, 2-year-old Jay’Dien Rollins, one of the victims, passed away from his injuries. This led to the involvement of the LRPD Homicide Detectives, who subsequently charged Justin and Deja Rollins with Capital Murder and First Degree Child Endangerment for the surviving children.
The Pulaski County Coroner took over to perform an autopsy at the Arkansas State Crime Lab.
But it gets worse.
During police’s investigation of Deja Rollins, police found that Rollins had four children, aged 2, 4, 7, and 10. The parents would not provide details about the children’s location. They were found in a vehicle in a parking lot of the hospital. A dog was also found at Rollin’s home and was seized by Animal Services as well.
As a result, the couple have been charged with endangerment, obstruction, and a series of other serious charges.
Now, as of September 26th, Justin and Deja Rollins have been charged with Capital Murder following the death of their 3-year-old daughter, Zhay’viah Rollins. The young child passed away from her injuries on September 20th, 2024, prompting the Jacksonville Police Department to bring forth these severe charges against her parents.
The community was left in shock as details of the case continue to unfold, highlighting a tragic loss and the legal consequences that follow.
