The City of Batesville will receive over $616,000 in federal grant money from the U.S. Department of Transportation to enhance street and road safety. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced Thursday that more than $1 billion in grants were allocated through President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program. The funds will support 354 local communities, including Batesville. Planned improvements include pedestrian blinker signs with thermal sensors, emergency vehicle preemption systems, and traffic signal upgrades.
