Arkansas Oil Spill Reported To Government
On June 15, 2024, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was alerted by the National Response Center (NRC) to a significant oil spill in Smackover, Arkansas.
An estimated 2,000 barrels of crude oil were discharged from the Martin Operating Partners Facility. The spill originated from an underground 6-inch pipeline located about 110 feet from a manifold.
The leaked oil spread over the land and entered natural drainage systems. These systems lead into Holmes Creek, which connects to Smackover Creek and the Ouachita River.
Officials are concerned about the environmental impact on these waterways. Efforts to contain and clean up the spill are underway.
