An Arkansas nurse was able to leap into action after a violent shark attack during her last day of vacation near Destin, Florida,

According to 5NewsOnline, an Arkansas nurse saved a shark attack victim after a woman lost her hand and was bleeding.

Shark Attack Details Revealed

Even while vacationing far from home, Ashley Phillips, an emergency department nurse at Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas, demonstrated the dedication and quick thinking that define her profession. Earlier this month, Phillips immediately jumped into action to perform life-saving measures on a shark attack victim.

Phillips, who hails from Arkansas, was enjoying a much-needed break when the unexpected emergency occurred. Despite being off duty and far from her usual work environment, her training and readiness to respond to crises were evident.

“As an emergency department nurse, I’m no stranger to witnessing tragedy,” Phillips shared. “Swiping your badge at the time clock means you can expect anything to happen. But when you’re on vacation, it’s time to take the cape off and let your cortisol levels come down—at least, that’s what I thought.”

According to Phillips, after she reached the female victim who was screaming, she noticed the victim’s entire hand was missing:

“Her left hand was gone, and there was massive trauma to her lower half.”

She said the victim was very brave:

“I witnessed one of the bravest women I have ever seen.”

The nurse was able to create a torniquet and save the victim, whose family was watching.

Please show your support for this brave nurse!
