A 2004 Lexus crashed through the front of the United States Post Office at 600 West Academy in Searcy on Monday, tax day.

Lt. Todd Wells, of the Searcy Police Department said Marlene Cothern, 85, of Searcy was the driver and the preliminary investigations are that Cothern was experiencing a medical episode prior crashing. “No one appears seriously injured,” Wells said. She was taken to Unity Health Hospital for observation and another person inside the post office told police officers that they were “nudged” by the vehicle but was otherwise ok and refused medical attention.

Wells said officers responded to the incident at 9:40 a.m. after receiving a 911 call stating that someone had crashed through the front of the building.

I spoke with Searcy Fire Chief Brian Dunavan Monday afternoon and he said to his knowledge this was the first vehicle to crash through glass at a building this year.

Dunavan said these types of incidents have happened over the years at this same post office.
