Crews promptly tossed a life jacket to the man to ensure his safety and flotation. They then planned further rescue efforts to bring him to shore.
An initial attempt using a pyramid formation—where rescuers form a V-shaped line to reach the victim—proved unsafe due to deep water and strong currents. A subsequent effort with an inflatable boat and rope system failed as the boat took on water amid rapid changes in water levels.
As the water receded, responders adapted by building a bridge with an extension ladder. A rescuer crossed the ladder, secured the victim’s life jacket and tether, and safely guided him back.
Despite challenging conditions, the crews’ professionalism and teamwork shone through, resulting in a successful rescue with no injuries. The Goshen Fire District extends gratitude to the Washington County Technical
Rescue Team, Goshen Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Fayetteville Fire Department, and Central EMS for their critical support.
