A man was just arrested on January 5th in Conway, Arkansas for an alleged crime that happened in 2023 involving forgery.
Thomas Gilbert Jackson, a 54-year-old resident of Hot Springs, has been charged with Forgery II, a Class C felony, for an incident that took place on July 28, 2023, in Faulkner County. He was arrested by Conway Police Department on January 5th. He allegedly used a forged check. He claims that someone gave it to him at a homelessness camp and told him to cash it illegally for a cut of the money.
Suspect Arrested For Forgery In Conway Was Approached At Homeless Camp
According to court documents, Jackson attempted to cash a check for $1,900 at First Service Bank, using a check that was purportedly from Shay Humphrey’s business, “Shay’s Love Affur Grooming.” The check was identified as fraudulent because it lacked the bank’s emblem and had an incorrect signature.
Investigations revealed that the check was initially mailed by Humphrey to her accountant for $200, but was intercepted and altered.
Jackson claimed that an individual from a homeless camp in Little Rock gave him the check, promising to split the money. However, these claims have not been confirmed.
Bank employee Anabelle LaBakis detailed Jackson’s nervous behavior and the discrepancies in the check, which led to the immediate recognition of the forgery. She noted that Jackson left on foot after being informed the check would not be cashed, with no further details on the person who allegedly gave Jackson the check.
The case moved forward with a warrant for Jackson’s arrest issued after Detective Wesley Pence’s thorough investigation, including video evidence and bank records, confirmed the fraudulent attempt. Jackson’s prior felony convictions make him subject to habitual offender sentencing enhancements if convicted.
Please note: All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
