International scammers are reportedly targeting local residents in Fairfield Bay on an increasing level:
“The number of calls we get on international calls and latent theft is becoming extensive.”
Sadly, by the time most people contact the local police. their property and money is already out of the country:
“Some of our citizens that call or come in have have already had their money, identity, or assets stolen.”

New Scams Are Rising
According to McCool, a new scam on the rise involves scammers pretending to be law enforcement.
One scam is like this: Someone will contact you pretending to be law enforcement. They will ask you to liquidate assets and have a “courier” come pick up your assets pretending to be the government.4
According to McCool:
“Being informed is the best weapon against this.”
