Cave City Police Department Social Media Returns After Attacks

Mayor Jonas Anderson, who has served since 2017, announced a significant change in how the local police department communicates with residents. After observing that a small group of individuals were disrupting the community’s official police department’s Facebook group, the decision was made to transition to a new format:

“Unfortunately a very small handful of folks have made it their mission to render this group ineffective, by continually making divisive, ill-informed, offensive, and unrelated posts.”

As a result, they are launching a new Facebook page that will be for police announcements only. But the Facebook group will still remain in tact.

The existing group, with nearly 4,000 members, had become a platform for divisive and irrelevant posts, overshadowing its original purpose of disseminating community information. Consequently, the Cave City Police Department has launched a new official page on the platform to ensure that residents receive updates without distractions.

Mayor Anderson emphasized the importance of maintaining a space for constructive dialogue and respect. He encouraged the community to follow the new page, noting that while archiving the old group means losing some historical content, the focus will be on future engagement and positive community interaction.

In his message, Anderson also advised residents to manage their social media exposure to avoid stress, suggesting they block or unfollow sources of negativity. This move aims to foster a more positive online environment while upholding the right to free and respectful communication.
