It’s OK to use ChatGPT to write your news stories. I use it on State Police accident reports myself. But you HAVE to double check what’s written and clean it up now and then. Case in point: This car crash is described as having a car that “flipped over” and “flipped over multiple times” and “overturned one and a half times.” These are not contextually synonymous terms. Granted Arkansas State Police troopers can be somewhat illiterate when writing their reports, but that doesn’t give you permission to do the same. In short, ChatGPT is a useful tool but that’s all it is, a tool. YOU have to be the journalist of record.

We’re just quoting the police report.
The original police report stated the car “THEN OVERTURNED 1 AND A HALF TIMES BEFORE COMING TO FINAL REST ON THE ROADSIDE.”
