They made a problematic discovery under the new Stone County Jail building project.

Stone County Jail Delayed After “Limestone” Discovered Underneath
Shawn Harding from HMN Architects revealed at a recent meeting that 1,510 cubic yards of rock have already been removed. This unforeseen geological challenge was not adequately predicted by preliminary surveys, leading to significant delays.
The project, initially facing tight deadlines, now expects an extension of 65 days, pushing the completion date to November 2025. The “rock clause” in the contract allows for additional charges, costing the county thousands more at $340 per cubic yard of rock removed.
