Daniel Hernandez, a 23-year-old from Paragould, Arkansas was sentenced to 72 months in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree battery and harming a police animal.

The incident, which led to the suspect’s arrest on July 10, involved Hernandez, heavily intoxicated, refusing police commands and wielding rocks. Despite efforts to deescalate, Hernandez’s non-compliance resulted in the charges. H
e received an additional suspended sentence of 72 months.
It made statewide news when Hernandez was arrested.
Daniel Hernandez was engaged in a confrontation with Paragould police where, despite repeated orders, he refused to drop large rocks he was holding. In response, the police deployed a K9 officer named Phantom to help subdue Hernandez.
During the encounter, Hernandez violently resisted by striking Phantom in the head with a rock. As officers attempted to physically restrain him, Hernandez also struck Corporal Mike Price in the head with the rock, resulting in a laceration above Price’s left eye. This just goes to show that you can’t attack law enforcement and endanger lives and expect to get away with it.
